We promised you a great night and boy did we deliver!!
Hundreds and hundreds of gorgeous, clued up clubbers headed for Eberle street to celebrate 18 years of Garlands. A club hat has defied classification- is it gay? Is it straight? Garlands has proved once again to be a club land leader and re written the “how to run a night club” rule book.
It was the perfect birthday cake, with enough ‘quality ingredients’ to stimulate even the most jaded or joyless of pallets. From our flamboyant entertainment to the music making you dance all night long.
We decided to hold up the Garlands distorting mirror to society’s sad preoccupation with celebrity and the pointlessness of it all, and we thought who better to arrive in a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce than instant fame creator Simon Cowell (Budgetary constraints precluded the real thing so we got a look a like). I hope you all got the point and if not you just enjoyed the spectacle.
At 1:30am the first of three birthday pa’s, Duke’s So in Love With You, a tune from the fledgling days of Garlands. Next up was Laura Vane with a blistering rendition of everyone’s favourite One Eye Shut. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better Tara McDonald ripped the roof off Garlands with My, My, My and her amazing new track Dynamite. With an explosion of white confetti the chorus of ‘Happy Birthday Garlands, we love you!’ was left ringing in our ears and the dj’s continued to drop the biggest tunes from our first 18 years.
Tara McDonald herself said on her facebook, ”Garlands! You made my night! It was a honour to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the club with all of you. Started with a live interview on Radio City 96.7, on top of the Radio City Tower where I could see all the lights of the city… then rolling in a super sexy white Rolls Royce Phantom seemed to be the only way to start the madness… arrived at the club, crazy audience, drag queens on fire… it’s so good to be back in England with my audience in Liverpool three years later “Tara-style”!
I sang “My my my” of course, but also “Dynamite” for the first time live! Garlands, you rocked! You gave me energy… And what energy! Garlands, you are Dynamite! I’ll be back soon to cause more damage!!!”
The whole thing was captured for posterity and will be appearing on this web site soon! We hope you all had the time of your lives. Happy 18th Birthday Garlands!
